Information for Principals / Guidance Counselors

Application Process

  • Application and FAQ are available online at http://www.cerra.org/teachingFellows .
  • There are no paper applications. All students must apply using the online application.
  • Students can apply between September 1 and November 1 and will be notified by early December as to whether they have been invited to an interview.
  • There are no GPA or SAT/ACT score requirements for eligibility. Any high school senior who is a US citizen and SC resident can apply. Initial scoring is based on a combination of scholastic information, community and school activities, and references.
  • Students must create a MyCerra account in order to complete the online application.
  • Students are responsible for sending 3 references and a transcript to CERRA in one envelope postmarked by November 15. References must be on official forms. Students will be prompted to print these when their completed application is submitted online, and the forms are also available for reprinting on the CERRA website.
  • Applicants have been instructed to verify Guidance Counselor and Principal email addresses prior to applying.
  • Applicants have been instructed to notify Guidance Counselors when they apply.
  • Guidance Counselors must complete a scholastic profile online for each student who applies.
  • Principals must verify the scholastic profile information completed by the Guidance Counselor.

Verifying Scholastic Profiles

  • When a student applies for Teaching Fellows, the Guidance Counselor should receive an email automatically if the student has correctly entered the Counselor email address on his or her application. The student should also notify the Counselor that he or she has applied for Teaching Fellows.
  • Once the Guidance Counselor completes a scholastic profile on behalf of the student, an email is automatically generated to you (based on the email address entered by the student on his or her application). You must then log in to your MyCerra account and verify the scholastic profile.
  • In order to verify the scholastic profile you will need to log in to your MyCerra account, click the Teaching Fellows Application link in your inbox, and select your school from the list. If you do not have an account, please see the section below for steps to create one.
  • You will then see a list of all students at your high school who have applied for Teaching Fellows. These will be separated into two lists: profiles that still need to be verified and profiles that have already been verified.
  • Click on the profiles needing verification and submit requested information.

Creating a MyCerra Account
